Inflorescence

aa

In the most general sense, an inflorescence is the complete set of all flowers or flower heads on a given plant; i.e., an "overall inflorescence".

However, many species with branched stems, have flowers on their branches.  We can refer to these as branch inflorescences. The form of a branch inflorescence may be different from that of the overall inflorescence.

For example, the overall inflorescence of an aster may be panicle-like, while the form of its branch inflorescences is raceme-like.
